Third Year Anniversary

Three years ago I married the most handsome, amazing groom, and my best friend at a family built beach club in Santa Monica. Today marks the third anniversary since our unforgettably, beautiful summer day back in 2010. Our wedding day (which was pre-Pinterestoric times) was one of the best days of our lives and couldn’t have been made possible without the love and help of all our closest family and friends. I remember smiling from ear to ear the entire day wondering if my cheeks would ever be able to learn how to frown ever again. The location of our dreams, the tastiest food, the most special flowers, a simple wedding dress, and the best friends and family to celebrate this day with made it pure joy. Today I decided to take a little walk down memory lane in honor of the day…enjoy!

Details I still smile at… getting ready at the Drybar, the best deal on invitations, grandma and grandpa singing, my uncle and cousin playing the strings, my sister’s calligraphy on invitations, signs hand-cut and hand-made by our best friends, hand making party favors with lychee jelly and sees candies, a delicious non-tiered coconut cake, a tea ceremony in honor of my heritage, feathers in our florals, our wedding slideshow, totally inappropriate messages written all over our car and all the love and happiness in the world that a family could ever bestow upon me. We are so thankful to each and everyone of our friends and family who have brought us to where we are now. Here’s to 3 years of sweet marriage! I was so honored to capture this day in such an intimate way for these two very special people. Filled to the brim with laughter, fun, and depth, this dynamic duo wins the medal for funnest wedding ever. A big thank you to these two for having me out. And special thank you goes out to Kristine for all of your hard work and support this day!

Katrina + Eric | San Gabriel, CA Rustic Backyard Garden Wedding

Did I tell you? I love backyard weddings. There is just something so home-y and genuine about them. Apparently I am not the only one. Katrina and Eric have always talked about having an outdoor garden wedding and so this dream was one they made into a reality.

It is difficult to fathom that everything at a wedding can be so lovingly put together as this wedding was. Set in the backyard of the house Eric had built with his parents from foundation up, this house was a site to behold on wedding day, including the special cabana Eric built with his grandpa just months before the wedding. Eric is an incredibly friendly & creative guy whose selflessness sketches out for him a heart of gold. Talk about groom-zilla, when Katrina told him she envisioned having Italian lights on wedding day, Eric put up all the Italian lights, posts, hanging lanterns and chandelier all by himself in 3 days flat…And Katrina – well she is probably one of the most focused, motivated funny individuals I’ve met. She had the decorative details down to a T. I love how she combined magenta and teal wonderfully with garden flowers and burlap.

Capturing their endearing, genuine love for one another could not have been a sweeter experience for me. Congratulations Katrina & Eric!

I love that they had two caged parakeets at their wedding, to match their invitation.

The sweetest of surprises! This little puppy was waiting at the door with a note around its neck waiting for Katrina as she got ready in her room that morning.

Romin and Naomi | Wedding at La Jolla Presbyterian Church

I love that my weddings keep getting more and more global as I keep going down this windy adventure of finding out who I was created to be behind a lens. Romin’s Persian roots and Naomi’s mix of Caucasian, Mexican and Native American blood is going to blend together to make some cute kids for sure.

It’s not all too often a couple can say they met at a Christmas party and a short while later were writing the pages of a serious love story that would one day result in marriage. Well it actually happened for Naomi and Romin, who made a Christmas party called “Bringing Sexy Back” their first meeting. Both knew right away their newfound connection was going to go somewhere. And, after months of connecting on several levels including life and faith in God, Romin made a romantic, well planned out proposal in Mexico ending in dinner with his family.  Go Romin!

I love that they made it their personal preference for wedding gifts to be made out to various support organizations they have been involved in that do justice and love people in need including prostitutes in Tijuana, orphans in the Dominican Republic / Uganda, and inner city youth in San Diego. Naomi and Romin are possibly two of the biggest hearts and personalities I know.

Located in the heart of Downtown La Jolla, their wedding and reception took place at the gorgeous 112-year-old venue, La Jolla Presbyterian Church. The day was something else and I was so happy to see it fun-filled with all of their closest family and friends. Naomi & Romin – I am so excited for your lives together!

A huge thank you to my awesome second shooter and friend, Christina Cho, for her wonderful support and talented skills that helped make this day happen!

Luke and Esther | Intimate Nepali Chapel Wedding

Wedding season is getting off to quite a start. I have been so blessed to keep having these opportunities just fly right into my arms one by one.

Luke and Esther’s wedding was unlike many I have been to. There was no garter or bouquet toss. No bridal party. No reception. No DJ or Jay-Z or Black Eyed Peas on the dance floor, or cocktail hour or reception. It was quiet and uncluttered. And though they were thousands of miles away from home, it was an intimate affair away from the traditional whir of wedding day craziness. Together with their few family and close friends they celebrated their vows. Luke and Esther decided to hold a nontraditional wedding, the American way. And I was invited to photograph the intimate gathering of fewer than ten. Thank you Luke and Esther for inviting me into your day. May these memories be remembered forever!
