When I was 12 I picked up my first automatic film camera. It was tiny, black and sleek. I remember the first time I awkwardly loaded that first roll of Kodak. And then I took a look through that viewfinder, and in that moment, my eyes were opened to a whole new world. It’s been a long time coming that I revisit some of those roots. Last month, I challenged myself to try something I hadn’t done in awhile and I finally picked up some film again.

I find that as an artist, I’m constantly exploring ways to push myself while keeping things raw and authentic. I think it’s human nature to want to get back to the truest sense of things in all that we do. For me with photography, that looks like film and analogue shooting.

Last month when I rolled out my father’s old 1970’s 35mm Canon FtB, it was to capture a few of my favorite behind the scenes moments of wedding preparation at my friend Ruth’s wedding. It was an honor to be in the wedding and to share in the joy of two of my friends becoming one.
